Sunbeam Flashlight

I’ve been wanting a slightly more powerful flashlight for a while now. I’ve got some brothers-in-law that have built their own flashlights and they are crazy bright and crazy small. I also wanted it to be inexpensive, so mine definitely didn’t end up being small. Its 18″ long and weighs about 2lbs. But it is CRAZY bright. Like it puts my car headlights to shame. Total cost for me was about $25, but I had some parts lying around. (metal grates, screws, wire, superglue, battery) You’ll need some tools to …

Notification Board

So my wife and I share a google calendar, and she does a pretty good job of putting things on there that we have scheduled to do, but my main problem with the system is that I forget to look at the calendar app in the mornings and am generally reminded about an event when its time to go. So I needed something that could help me stay on top of our calendar without putting in more effort than the bare minimum to do so. So I did a project …

Side Burner Alcohol Camping Stove Build

A couple weeks ago, we went camping with some friends. Which is my jam. But in the interest of not spending all our money on cool camping gear, I decided I wanted to try my hand at building a small alcohol stove. I did a lot of research on which types of stoves are best and there are a lot of pro’s and con’s for each type, but in the end I settled on a basic sideburner design.   This stove can burn denatured alcohol (ethanol), HEET, and pure rubbing …

Magnetic Key Holder and Elastic Sunglasses Holder

have this bad habit of coming home and putting my keys, wallet, and sunglasses in a different spot every time, and I’d always spend 5 minutes looking for those things before I walked out the door again. So I needed a solution. And this is what I came up with. On the left is a simple block of wood that has 40 rare earth magnets embeded in holes in the back. I used a 1/2″ forsner bit for 1/2″ magnets that I bought on amazon in a pack of 50. …

Building a Deck of Cards

One of my friends grew up playing card games with her dad and has very fond memories of doing so. As hes gotten older, he has lost the ability to be able to hold a fan of cards in a hand in front of him, and its been years since they played card games together. So she came up with an idea and asked me to help her build it. This is what we did. Simply, we took a 2×4 and cut 54 – 1″ chunks and then trimmed a …

A Hammock Inside?! Yes, Please.

My wife and I love hammocks, and I had an idea… Lets put one inside. At first, my wife was like “you’re crazy, but if you can do it so that it looks really nice, go for it.” So I did. I put a lot of thought into where it would go and how it would hang and how to adjust it and how to make it so you can get it out of the way easily. Here’s what I’ve got: Besides a hammock you’ll need the following: On one …

9′ Sliding Door Made From Old Ship Deck

Our house has a “wing” upstairs that my wife and I wanted to use for dedicated guest rooms. Its two bedrooms and a bathroom with a hallway connecting everything. The only problem is that the hallway has this huge opening that leads into the main living room, which kinda kills the privacy we wanted people to have. So we built a door. A really, really big door. This thing is 9′ tall, 4′ wide, and weighs about 100 lbs. I’ve seen tons of sliding doors on Pinterest and thought “I …
